The Possessor of Two Lights

The sahabah (companions of our beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ (were selected by Allah to benefit directly from the blessed company of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ. They were individuals who imitated every aspect of the blessed behaviour and characteristics possessed by Allah’s Messenger ﷺ. Every believer has a duty to educate themself regarding these illustrious companions, since it is due to them that the blessed sunnah was conveyed with such great precision. It is because of them that knowledge of the prophetic sunnah has reached us.
‘Uthman Ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) was from the early pioneers of Islam. He accepted Islam upon the invitation of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophetﷺ gave two of his daughters, Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with them), in marriage to ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). It is for this reason that he was given the title “Dhu ‘l-Nurayn” (The Possessor of Two Lights).

Teacher Bio: Mufti Bilal al-Mahmudi
Mufti Bilal completed his memorisation of the Qur’an as well as the six year ‘Alimiyyah
programme in the Islamic sciences at Darul Ulum Leicester, UK. He then went on to
further his studies and completed an Ifta/Takhassus fi’ l-Fiqh (specialisation in fiqh and
fatwa) course at Dar al-Ifta al-Mahmudiyyah in Durban, South Africa under renowned
specialists Mufti Ebrahim Desai and Mufti Husain Kadodia.
