Give Sadaqat al-Fitr & Fidyah

Sadaqat al-Fitr should be paid before ‘Id so that it can accordingly be distributed to the poor by ‘Id day.

What is Sadaqat al-Fitr?

Sadaqat al-Fitr is £4.50 per person

Sadaqat al-Fitr is mandatory (wajib) on every legally responsible (sane and pubescent) Muslim who has possessions apart from basic needs that is valued in excess of Nisab (which is currently around £385).

A man must pay for himself and his dependents, i.e. his young (non-pubescent) children. A woman will discharge her own Sadaqat al-Fitr if she has wealth equivalent to Nisab. However, it is permissible for the husband to pay it on behalf of his wife while informing her that he is doing so.

The amount to be given is half a sa (1.6kg) of wheat for each person. One can pay the monetary equivalent. The current approximate average value of 1.6kg of wheat is £4.50.

The obligation occurs from Fajr of Id al-Fitr (1st Shawwal). It is permissible to distribute it before the day. It is encouraged and recommended to do so before the Id prayer. If not given on the day, the obligation to discharge it still remains; however, it is discouraged and disliked to delay it beyond the day.

As such, Sadaqat al-Fitr should be paid before Id day so that it can accordingly be distributed to the poor on time.

In sha Allah we will be distributing Sadaqat al-Fitr to poor people in Bangladesh on the day of Id.

Note: Transfer fees are completely optional. This amount will NOT be deducted from your Sadaqat al-Fitr or Fidyah Payments.

What is Fidyah?

Fidyah is £4.50 per missed fast (2024)

An old person or someone with a chronic illness preventing them from fasting must pay fidyah for each missed fast.

Fidyah is only paid by someone whose sickness (which renders them incapable of fasting) is permanent and there is no hope of recovery, or an extremely elderly person who is physically unable to fast. If one is likely to recover from their illness, they are not eligible or permitted to pay fidyah, rather they will be required to make up (i.e. do qada of) the missed fasts.

The amount to be given is half a sa (1.6kg) of wheat for each missed fast. One can pay the monetary equivalent. The current approximate average value of 1.6kg of wheat is £4.50.

This page is specifically for Sadaqat al-Fitr and Fidyah payments. All money will be distributed as cash directly to the poor.

Note: Transfer fees are completely optional. This amount will NOT be deducted from your Sadaqat al-Fitr or Fidyah Payments.
